Language: Croatian (standard language and the local dialect that is quite different from the standard). For tourist purposes the languages most widely used are English, Italian and German. State system: Multi-party parliamentary republic
Money: National currency is Kuna (1 kuna = 100 lipa). Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 lipa and 1, 2 and 5 kuna, and banknotes: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 kuna. Foreign currencies are exchanged at banks, exchange offices, post offices and at most tourist agencies, hotels and camps. Euro-cheques are exchanged only in banks. The banks are open from 7.00 to 19.00, Saturday until 13.00. In bigger towns duty banks are open on Sunday.
Credit cards: Most hotels, restaurants and shops accept American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard/Mastercard and Visa.
Travel documents: Passport or other identification document recognized by international agreement. Tourists can stay in Croatia up to three months. Further information: Ministry of

Customs tax: Not payable for the import of personal belongings. Foreign currency can be brought in and out of the country without limitations, and local currency up to 2,000 kn. Valuable technical and professional equipment must be declared at the border. The import of animals is allowed with the valid veterinarian document. Tax refund for foreign nationals: Tax refund is applicable on the merchandise purchased in Croatia for the amount that exceeds 500 kuna with the confirmation of the form "Tax cheque" when leaving the country. The refund is possible within the following six months.
Tourist health insurance: Foreign tourists do not pay for medical services if Croatia and their country of origin signed a convention on reciprocal health care. The cost of medical treatment for the nationals of the countries that did not sign such convention with Croatia are charged directly from beneficiaries according the price list.
